I had a bit of a freak out last night!

We were invited by some wonderful missionaries to have dessert with some of the other adopting families last night. The adults were talking in one room and the kids were playing in the next room. When it was time to go we went to round up our children and Oleg wasn’t with them. We were freaking out searching the building for him. I found him outside sitting on the curb in the dark. Taking pictures of the. church van on my iPod.

I was really upset that he hadn’t asked us if he could go outside, but I need to remember that Oleg isn’t use to life in a family. He is use to life in the orphanage and from what we can tell the children at the orphanage are free to do pretty much whatever they want. They can leave the orphanage and walk around the village without having to ask anyone’s permission.

We explained to Oleg that we need to know where he is and he needs to ask our permission if he wants to go somewhere else. He went to bed upset with the new restrictions on the freedom he is use to. We went to bed happy that our son is safe and now has a family to look after him.

I am sure we will run into many more challenges as we navigate this new life together. May God give us wisdom to face each challenge with discernment and love.
